LEGO The HobbitAn unexpected journey and an unlikely hero

Based on the fantasy work of JRR Tolkien and realised in film by Peter Jackson, the Hobbit now arrives as an awesome LEGO range - hairy feet and all!

A logical progression from the LEGO Lord of the Rings range, LEGO The Hobbit features characters and scenes from Peter Jackson's movie trilogy, and displays similar artistic licence. Tolkien purists steer clear, for the rest of us it's all great fun.

LEGO The Hobbit

Bilbo Baggins is a small and unlikely hero with a big heart. While we all watched the exploits of his nephew Frodo in the Lord of the Rings movies long ago, it was this unassuming hobbit who started it all off, with his unexpected journey to the Misty Mountains via many, many adventures.

What was a fairly short fantasy book and simple story has been transformed for cinemas into an epic, three-part roller-coaster movie experience, and the LEGO The Hobbit range takes full advantage of that, recreating many of the movies' set piece scenes in exquisite brick detail. You'll find all of your favourite hobbits and dwarves, heroes and villains throughout the sets - collecting the full party is going to be an obsession for many of us.

Riddle of the Ring

In The Riddles of the Ring set you can play as either Smeagol/Gollum or Bilbo as they battle it out in a game of wits. Just as well Gollum doesn't know Bilbo has the magic ring and can disappear at any time!

Escape from Mirkwood

I hate spiders, so the less said about Escape from Mirkwood the better. Suffice to say you can follow Fili the Dwarf and Kili the Dwarf deep into the dark and scary Mirkwood Forest. If you're so minded you can then attack the heroes with 3 small spiders and 2 giant spiders with glow-in-the-dark eyes and trap them inside cocoon elements high up in the buildable tree. Or like me you can just squish the spiders!

The Goblin King Battle

The highlight of the sets from the first movie is The Goblin King Battle, an awesome recreation of the Goblin King's cave and bridge with 7 minifigures.

In this epic set you'll get to save the Company of Dwarves from the goblins who have imprisoned them deep inside their filthy caves. You'll help Gandalf the Grey sneak past The Goblin Kingand set them free! Discover the cave’s functions, secrets and hidden treasures as you fight your way to freedom by firing the catapult, collapsing the rope bridge, lifting the bucket crane, tipping the ladder and finding the map.

Even if you're not a Hobbit fan these sets are great to build, play with and display.
